About this app

Monkey is a term that covers some simians in the order Primates. Monkey species found today are descendants of Old World monkeys. Monkeys are intelligent and social animals, and they can easily climb and hover on trees. Almost every ape, with the exception of the Barbary macaque and hominids, has a tail, even if it is very short.

There are many different species of monkeys. Except for some monkeys, they generally prefer places with tall and dense trees. Different primate families may feed on fruit, leaves, insects, flowers, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, crabs, and even other monkeys. Monkeys can live in forests, steppes, deserts, and even snowy mountains, but they are most commonly found in rainforests outside of Australia and New Guinea.

Some monkeys can be tiny, about 15 centimeters (6 in) long and weighing 120 grams (4.2 oz) grams, while other monkeys can be giant, about 1 meter (3 ft 3 in) long and 35 kilograms (77 lb) in weight...

Monkeys are divided into two groups based on where they live: New World monkeys living in South America and Old World Monkeys from Africa and Asia. New World monkeys are smaller than Old World monkeys. Monkeys have long arms and legs to help them use trees as swings. Some monkeys use their tails almost like a fifth arm. The tail is a kind of grasper. Most monkey species are arboreal, but some species are adapted to living on the ground.

The smallest known monkey species is the Dwarf marmoset; The largest monkey species is the Mandrill. It is 14–16 cm long without a tail and weighs 120 grams. This species lives in the treetops of the rainforests of Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador. Mandrills can grow up to about 1 m, and adults can weigh up to 35 kg. Monkeys usually climb with the help of their tails.
