Updates Group is the prayer timetable and community noticeboard for a group of towns in Tamil Nadu: Melvisharam, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Arcot, Ranipet, Pernambut, Gudiyatam, Vellore and Chennai.
Choose your town once. Everything after that is your town's own - its timetable, its mosques, its announcements. Change town whenever you travel, and change back.
NAMAZ TIMINGS THAT WORK WITHOUT A SIGNAL
Each town's timetable is built into the app from the printed calendar its own scholars compile, so it opens instantly and works with no connection at all. Where a town follows both the Shafii and Hanafi timings for Asr and Isha, both are shown side by side rather than one being chosen for you. Every timetable names who compiled it.
REMINDERS, SET THE WAY YOU WANT THEM
Tap the bell beside any prayer to be reminded before it, or after it if that suits you better. Reminders are kept per town, so the ones you set at home stay yours while you are away and are waiting when you return.
JAMATH TIMINGS, KEPT RIGHT BY THE PEOPLE WHO GO
Mosque jamath timings change, and a printed sheet cannot keep up. Anyone signed in can report a timing that looks wrong or confirm one that is right, and volunteers in each town review the reports. Every timing shows when it was last checked and by whom, so you can see for yourself how current it is.
AND THE REST OF WHAT A TOWN NEEDS
Announcements and events. The Islamic corner. Local shops, doctors and clinics with their consulting hours, function halls and resorts. The Hijri date. All of it for the town you have chosen.
YOU DO NOT NEED AN ACCOUNT
Prayer and jamath timings are open to everybody. Signing in with Google is needed only to report a timing or confirm one, and all we ever see is your name and email address. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
Timings are compiled by people in these towns and credited to them. If you find one that is wrong, report it from inside the app and it will reach the volunteers who can correct it.
