The story of Retro Caffé started in Devecser and found a new home in Ajka. During our story, which began as a family business, we faced many challenges, but we were always guided by the same thing: to prepare quality, honest, homemade dishes for our guests.
In the beginning, we operated a popular small catering establishment in Devecser, and then after the red mud disaster we had to start everything from scratch. During the difficult period, together with volunteers, we prepared tens of thousands of meals for the recovery workers, and it was then that it became really clear to us that catering was not just a job for us, but a vocation.
In 2011, we took over a small ice cream shop in Ajka, where we later started making pizza, and it quickly became one of the city's favorite meeting places. As we developed, we looked for a new home and found this more than 120-year-old historical building, which today houses the Retro Caffé restaurant. During the renovation, old memories, stories and the special atmosphere of the past were brought to life, which still defines the atmosphere of our restaurant today.
Our cuisine is based on the respect for traditional recipes and the combination of modern technology. We prepare our dishes with carefully selected ingredients from reliable suppliers. Our soups are made from long-cooked stock, our meat dishes are cooked using slow, gentle methods, and our vegetables are purchased fresh, whenever possible from domestic producers. We believe that the true quality of flavors lies in the ingredients, patience and professional attention.
Retro Caffé is more than a restaurant for us: a place where guests can relax, meet, celebrate or simply enjoy a carefully prepared, homemade meal. We prepare each dish as if it were on our own family table, because for us, hospitality is about attention, respect and experience.
