The “Interpretation Center for Lagoa de Óbidos” was one of the winning projects of the first edition, in 2017, of the OPP - Participatory Budget Portugal of FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology and Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific Culture and Technology, in the area of Science.
Coordinated by the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN), it has a local partnership with the Municipality of Óbidos, the Municipality of Caldas da Rainha and the City Council - Association for Citizenship.
The Lagoa de Óbidos Interpretation Center is an instrument for the discovery, enhancement and transmission of the natural and historical-cultural heritage of the Lagoa de Óbidos, contributing to the protection of this lagoon system of recognized ecological importance and to sustainable local development.
Shared by the municipalities of Caldas da Rainha and Óbidos, the Interpretation Center consists of a set of structures, equipment and other informative and interactive features available around the Lagoon.
Through an innovative, dynamic and proximity concept, it invites the visitor to have greater contact with the landscape, local communities and their traditional activities, through educational activities, citizen science, experimentation and organized nature tourism.
