Atish Mathur Courses is an online learning platform that provides classroom-recorded video lectures, live interactive classes (via Zoom), and structured study materials in a secure environment. Users can stream educational content, attend scheduled live classes, and download course materials for reliable offline access.

Foreground Service Usage

The app uses Android Foreground Services only for user-initiated, core learning features:

1. Live classes — media playback and microphone (via Zoom SDK)
When a user taps to join a live class, the app shows an in-app dialog (e.g. “Before you join the live class”) that explains that: • the microphone may be used in the background during the live class so the learner can participate; and
• video and audio can continue when the phone is locked or when the user switches to another app, so they do not miss the session.

The user must explicitly confirm (e.g. “Yes”) to proceed. If they decline, the live class does not start and no foreground service is started for that flow. A “Don’t show again” option may be available for returning users.

After confirmation, the Zoom SDK runs the live session. During that time: • Media playback foreground service is used so class audio/video stays active when the app is in the background or the screen is locked.
• Microphone foreground service is used so the learner can speak and participate while the app is backgrounded, when applicable.
• A persistent system notification is shown for the duration of the live session.
• The service stops when the user leaves the meeting or the session ends.

2. Course downloads — data sync
When the user starts a download of study materials (e.g. video chunks or related content), a foreground download service runs so downloads can complete reliably. The user sees a persistent notification with progress and can pause, resume, or cancel. The service stops when the download finishes, fails, or is cancelled.

Transparency and limits
• Foreground services start only after direct user actions (joining a live class or starting a download).
• They are not used for advertising, analytics, tracking, or non-user-initiated background sync.
• Bluetooth and connected-device behavior during live classes is part of the normal Zoom/class audio experience and is tied to the user’s active session, not to unrelated background activity.
To enhance security and prevent fraudulent access or account misuse, the app also uses location permission for fraud prevention, device verification, and secure content access monitoring.
