Choose where your data is hosted: use any public server (e.g., mt.social) or run your own personal server on your own domain. This flexibility is a key feature that sets DeJoy apart from traditional messaging apps. However you choose to host, your data remains yours—you’re in control.

Required Permissions

Permission: FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC
Purpose:
Our app is a real-time messaging platform based on the Matrix protocol. This permission ensures reliable message synchronization between the user's device and our servers.
Use Cases:
Real-time Message Sync - Continuously syncs new messages, read receipts, and typing indicators. Ensures messages are delivered promptly even when the app is minimized.
Initial Sync After Login - Fetches complete conversation history and room memberships. May take several minutes for accounts with extensive chat history.
Offline Message Queue - Messages sent while offline are queued and reliably delivered once connectivity is restored.
User Experience:
Shows "Initial Sync…" notification during sync, disappears when complete.

Permission: FOREGROUND_SERVICE_LOCATION
Purpose:
Enables Live Location Sharing feature, allowing users to share real-time location with conversation participants.
Use Cases:
Users can share their live location for a chosen duration (15 min / 1 hour / 8 hours).
Location updates continuously while sharing is active.
User Experience:
Requires user to explicitly start sharing and select duration.
Shows notification while sharing; users can stop anytime.
