Read faster, and read in the language you are learning. Speedready is a speed reader and a bilingual reader in one, for any book you own.

Read faster

* A highlight sweeps through the text at your pace, or words flash one at a time in the center of the screen, so your eyes stop jumping around
* Set your speed anywhere from 40 to 1,500 words per minute
* Natural pauses at commas, sentence ends and paragraphs keep it readable at speed
* See how many minutes are left in the chapter and the book

Learn a language by reading

* Ten languages, in any combination: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Russian and Swedish
* Above every word you do not know yet sits its translation in your own language
* Tap the translation once you know a word: it disappears from the whole book, and the page gets cleaner as your vocabulary grows
* Hold a word you are still learning: it is underlined everywhere and the pace slows for it
* Sentences are read aloud by your device's voice, with the text following along
* Export everything you look up as an Anki deck
* Reading German? Nouns are colored by gender: blue for der, red for die, green for das

Your own books, cleanly

Open any EPUB or text file; the app recognizes its language. Page numbers and headers left over from print are removed, sentences broken by a page are joined again, and every book opens at chapter one. A German storybook is built in so you can start right away.

Private

No account, no tracking, no ads. A language pair's dictionary downloads once (about 2 MB) and then works offline. Your books and your progress never leave your device.

The reader is free, open-source software. The reader code is MIT-licensed. Dictionaries use Wiktionary data under CC BY-SA 4.0; frequency data is from FrequencyWords under MIT. Attribution and licence details are in the source repository.
