About this app

Have a book in Spanish, French or German and wish you could listen to it in English, like an audiobook? Reader Voice does exactly that: it opens your EPUB or PDF, translates each sentence on your phone and reads the translation aloud, from the first page to the last.

LISTEN TO THE BOOK, ALREADY TRANSLATED
• Sentence-by-sentence translation while you listen: no selecting passages, no copy and paste.
• More than 50 source languages: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and many more.
• The book's language is detected automatically.
• Listen in English, Spanish or Portuguese: switch with one tap on "Read in".
• Want to see the text? The original and the translation of the current sentence are shown together.
• Books already in your chosen language are read directly, without translation.

OFFLINE AND PRIVATE
• Translation runs on your phone (Google ML Kit). The text of your books is never sent to the internet.
• Internet is needed only once, to download each language pack (about 30 MB).
• No sign-up and no ads. Your books and progress stay on your device.

LIKE AN AUDIOBOOK
• Keeps playing with the screen off, with controls in the notification, on the lock screen, on headphone buttons and on your watch (Wear OS).
• Voice commands through your assistant: "play Hamlet on Reader Voice" or just "resume".
• A play button on every book in your library.
• Remembers the exact sentence where you stopped, in every book.
• Speed from 0.5x to 3x, choice of voice and pitch, natural pauses between paragraphs and chapters.
• Sleep timer, bookmarks, chapters and estimated time left.

CLEAN TEXT FOR LISTENING
• PDFs rebuilt into paragraphs: no headers, footers or page numbers in the middle of the reading.
• Footnotes: remove them, read them where they are cited, or at the end of the paragraph.

YOUR LIBRARY
• Covers, search, sorting and tags, with filtering by several tags at once; "Finished" is added automatically when you finish a book.
• The original file is kept and can be opened in another reader.
• Back up your whole library to a single file.

Good to know: translation is automatic and may contain errors — the original prevails. Scanned PDFs (images only) can't be read yet. Voice quality depends on your phone's speech engine; we recommend "Speech Services by Google".
