About this app
**Stay connected. Even without the internet.**
Outlink is a free, open-source, decentralized messaging app that lets you communicate with people nearby using Bluetooth mesh networking. No internet connection, mobile data, phone number, or account required.
Built with Bitchat protocol compatibility, Outlink brings private, peer-to-peer communication to Android and iOS.
**KEY FEATURES**
π‘ **OFFLINE BLUETOOTH MESSAGING**
Chat with nearby people without Wi-Fi, mobile data, or cellular coverage. Outlink uses Bluetooth mesh networking to communicate directly between compatible devices.
π **ENCRYPTED PRIVATE MESSAGING**
Exchange end-to-end encrypted private messages with nearby contacts. Create invitation-only encrypted group conversations.
π **BITCHAT COMPATIBILITY**
Communicate using the Bitchat protocol, enabling interoperability with compatible Bitchat clients.
π **LOCATION-BASED CHANNELS**
Discover and join public conversations based on geographic areas, from entire regions to neighborhoods. Location channels use the decentralized Nostr network and require an internet connection.
π€ **NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED**
No phone number, email address, or account creation. Simply choose a nickname and start chatting.
π‘οΈ **PRIVACY CONTROLS**
Your local message history and preferences are protected with device-based encryption. Manage conversations, block users, and quickly erase locally stored app data.
π **NOTIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND CONNECTIVITY**
Receive optional notifications for messages and mentions. On Android, optional background connectivity helps maintain nearby Bluetooth connections while the app isn't in the foreground.
πΈ **OPTIONAL CASHU TOKEN SHARING**
Share externally prepared Cashu tokens through supported encrypted nearby conversations. A separate compatible wallet is required to redeem and verify received tokens.
**BUILT FOR DECENTRALIZED COMMUNICATION**
Outlink is designed for communication without depending on a central messaging service.
Whether you're at a festival, traveling, attending an event, or simply looking for an alternative way to connect, Outlink lets you communicate with compatible devices nearby.
**IMPORTANT TO KNOW**
β’ Bluetooth messaging depends on device proximity, connectivity, and available peers. Delivery is not guaranteed.
β’ Nearby Bluetooth conversations can work without internet access.
β’ Location-based public channels require internet access, and their messages are public.
β’ Outlink is not a replacement for emergency communication services.
**FREE & OPEN SOURCE**
Outlink is open source under the MIT license. Explore the project, report issues, and contribute to development.
