About this app

Nestling teaches you to identify birds with confidence. Not by memorizing, but in short tours that build you up species by species: meet a bird, learn to tell it apart, then identify it reliably.

HOW NESTLING WORKS

Every tour is a short round of questions: recognize the bird, match the name, separate similar species, identify calls and songs. Nestling remembers what you know well and what is still shaky, and brings exactly that back at the right moment. Your knowledge of each species grows from "seen" through "building" and "confident" to "mastered".

OUR OWN BIRD PLATES, HUMAN-VERIFIED

Every plate in Nestling is our own artwork, verified by humans. Each one shows the marks that actually matter for identification: plumage, silhouette, posture. Real recordings of calls and songs complete the picture.

YOUR COLLECTION

Master a species and its card joins your collection. The overview shows you at a glance which species are solid and where it pays to continue.

OUT IN THE FIELD

The map holds tours for real places, from the Wadden Sea to the Alps, each with the species you can actually expect there.

COVERAGE

Over 260 European species today, more tomorrow. The current focus is males in breeding plumage, usually the most distinctive dress. Many species already come with female, juvenile or non-breeding variants, and the goal is full coverage of all European species in all plumages. Bird names are currently available in German and English, with more languages on the way.
