About this app

The construction calculator you buy once. No subscription, ever.

Sawline is a feet-inch-fraction construction calculator for framers, carpenters and the trades. It holds feet, inches and fractions exactly, as rationals rather than decimals, so the numbers close instead of drifting a sixteenth at a time. Set the display resolution anywhere from 1/2 to 1/64.

Enter a run and a pitch and it returns the rafter, the rise and the diagonal. Enter a total rise and it returns the risers, the treads, the stringer and the angle. Hold any key to see what it does, with the formula and a worked example. Open any result to see the math with your own numbers substituted in.

For framers and roofers
Pitch as ratio, angle, percent or slope. Common rafters, regular hips and valleys, and unequal-pitch hips where the plan angle is not 45 degrees and the two cheek cuts do not add up to 90. Jack schedules built from the full-precision common, never from a rounded step. Bird's mouth, HAP, throat, ridge deduction, overhang, rake walls and gable studs.

For stair builders and remodellers
Riser and tread solving, run-limited and riser-limited, with "it does not fit" treated as a real answer that names the binding constraint. Stairs with a landing, and multi-flight layouts where every flight is solved and checked on its own. Stringer length, angle and throat. Stairwell opening with the datum stated. Layout marks for the board. A code report against IRC 2021, IRC 2024 or your own local amendment, showing actual against required with the section number on every line.

For concrete crews and estimators
Slab, footing, column and wall volumes, bag counts, block and brick, stud takeoffs, drywall and sheet goods, board feet, rebar length and weight, roofing squares and bundles, siding, decking, tile and paint. Waste is its own line, never folded into the total.

For finish carpenters
Compound miter and bevel for crown at any spring angle and any corner, nested or flat, plus polygons, hoppers, tapered columns and baluster spacing. Every saw setting says which way the board is sitting, because flat on the table and on edge against the fence are different numbers for the same cut.

For electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs and machinists
Voltage drop and wire sizing, box fill, conduit bending. Pipe offsets, rolling offsets, volume and slope. Duct sizing, equivalent round and air heat. Bolt circles, tap drills, sine bar, speeds and feeds. All four sets are included in the one unlock.

Why the numbers are trustworthy
Every material constant shows its source and the date it was retrieved, and you can override any of them. Manufacturer figures and estimates are marked differently, because they are different things. It is a construction calculator that shows its working.

Built for the jobsite
Works completely offline, with no account. Keeps the screen awake while you work, and the keys are sized for gloves.

How it is sold
One payment unlocks everything, permanently, including every future version. No renewal date, no account, no ads, no tracking. After the 14-day trial the core calculator keeps working and never expires: all feet-inch-fraction arithmetic, the tape, unit conversion, area and volume, board feet and the common rafter.

Please note
Sawline validates geometry against the ruleset you select. It is not a code review and it does not replace your building official. NEC and IRC tabular data is copyrighted and is not included; those calculators use the table value you enter and state which value was used.
