About this app

Syllabando contains exercises for training to the timed reading of lists of words bisillabe and trisillabe.

The use of the App allows children, and in particular those who attend the first classes of the Primary School, to learn correctly and to exercise the recognition of the syllabic structure of words, obtaining important results in increasing the speed and correct reading.

Exercises can also be useful for older children and boys, to improve reading speed and to face specific difficulties in spelling (words with double, complex consonant groups, etc.).

Sillabando has been designed in the field of speech therapy: the exercises it offers are also indicated in case of DSA.

In the exercises, each element of a list of words is subdivided into its syllabic components, which are proposed in random order and with defined persistence times, as in a tachistoscope. Each syllable appears on the screen, remains visible for the set time and then disappears. The times of persistence decrease with the progress of the exercises. At the presentation follows the answer, which consists in writing the element that was shown and then hidden. The writing allows the App to assess the correctness of the answer and at the same time constitutes a training for the child, which in addition to remembering the syllable just seen, must perform the phonemic analysis. After completing the reading in syllables, each exercise continues presenting the whole words, always with prefixed persistence and written answers. The App contains over 80 exercises already prepared, ordered in a path of increasing difficulty, but also freely executable. Each exercise is divided into several levels and uses a list of words with characteristics suitable for training specific skills. The Sillabando exercises are dedicated to different areas of use:

- basic learning of syllabic reading skills, for children who have just learned to read and write;

- spelling, with lists of words made to address specific critical issues of reading and writing, such as words with double consonants, syllables containing the letter "H" and so on;

- fast reading, to improve rapid recognition even of "difficult" words.

Short feedback, if activated, jokingly emphasizes successes and errors in reading. Among the additional settings, the use of a pointer (to capture the attention of the reader) and the perceptual masking, which allows to reduce the effect of retinal persistence of the visual stimulus. Each level of the exercises has a maximum acceptable percentage of errors: if it is not finished at least with the precision set, the level is repeated again.

The App favors the rapid overcoming of the "alphabetic phase" during the learning of the basics of reading.
