About this app

MoniDesk is the field application for the responders and volunteers of emergency response and civil protection organizations. It puts in your pocket what the operations centre sees on the wall: ongoing events, alerts, assigned tasks and the teams on the ground.

MoniDesk is an independent product, developed and distributed by a private developer and licensed to the organizations that adopt it. It is not the official application of any public body, it was not developed on behalf of a public administration, and it does not provide public services: it is an internal work tool. Access is restricted to authorized personnel, with named credentials issued by their own organization. There is no public sign-up.

WHAT IT DOES

• Operational map — ongoing events, weather and hydrogeological alerts, points of interest and infrastructure, with navigation to the intervention site one tap away.

• Field reports — a flood, a landslide, a blocked road, structural damage: filled in within seconds, with a photo or video attached and the GPS position captured automatically. The report reaches the operations centre and immediately becomes an event on everyone's map.

• Works without a network — in a tunnel, at the bottom of a valley, in a stricken area where the cells have gone down: the report is queued and transmitted on its own as soon as the signal returns, photos included.

• Help request (SOS) — a button always within reach, on every screen, that alerts the operations centre together with your position. It works without a network too: the request is queued and delivered at the first usable signal.

• Safety timer (man down) — armed before entering a risky situation: if you do not confirm you are well within the time you set, a help request is sent automatically to the centre.

• Location sharing with the operations centre, assigned tasks with their status, operations chat, and notifications that arrive even when the app is closed.

BACKGROUND LOCATION

One single feature requires it: sharing the responder's location with the operations centre during a shift. It is turned on from the switch on the main screen; from that moment the responder's position appears on the centre's map even with the screen off and the app not in the foreground, because the phone stays in a pocket while they work. It is used to dispatch the nearest team and to locate whoever triggers the SOS. Before asking for the permission the app explains who receives the location and what for; while sharing is active a persistent notification stays visible; the same switch stops it. Without sharing the app remains fully usable.

WHERE THE INFORMATION COMES FROM

MoniDesk does not produce alerts or institutional data: it relays what the official sources publish, and always states the origin of what it shows. Where they differ, the official source prevails and should be consulted directly:

• Alerts and hydrogeological criticality — Italian Civil Protection Department: https://mappe.protezionecivile.gov.it — and the regional Functional Centres, e.g. Campania: https://centrofunzionale.regione.campania.it
• Earthquakes and volcanic activity — INGV: https://terremoti.ingv.it and https://www.ov.ingv.it
• Landslide and flood hazard — ISPRA IdroGEO: https://idrogeo.isprambiente.it
• European weather warnings — Meteoalarm: https://meteoalarm.org
• Road traffic — CCISS, Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport: https://www.cciss.it — and Autostrade per l'Italia: https://viabilita.autostrade.it
• Wildfires and satellite thermal anomalies — NASA FIRMS: https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov
• Weather forecasts — Open-Meteo: https://open-meteo.com

MoniDesk is not an official public warning channel and does not replace IT-alert or the communications of the user's own municipality or region.

• MoniDesk's own estimates are labelled as such and kept apart from official alerts
• the app can now be used with the phone in landscape
