About this app

Over 90,000 authors are already writing their next masterpiece using Novelist!

Novelist is the app that helps you write your novels. And it's completely free: no initial cost, zero advertising and no in-app purchases!

Sounds ambitious? Yes, it is. We don't want you to conform to some framework or methodology. We want to provide you the best tools to plot, outline, organize and schedule your stories.

Plot is when you list all the elements of your story, like on a board. Items can be edited, moved, merged, splitted, reordered and deleted. You can even set a status, write notes and texts or add tags, metadata and pictures to each item. Categories are completely customizable, as are metadata and statuses.

Write is when you put all the items together to compose scenes. Each scene is a piece of your story and can be annotated or written directly in our app!

Organize is when you structure your scenes in acts, parts, chapters and so on. Your imagination is the limit.

Schedule is when you set your goals: word count or due date.

Advanced features:
▪ Write on Web on any browser
▪ Generate and use templates when creating new books
▪ Backup and restore with Google Drive
▪ Book compilation in EPUB, ODT or HTML format
▪ Complete book preview without leaving the application
▪ Rich text editor with format, counters and autosave
▪ Insert and review comments in texts
▪ View and restore previous text versions
▪ Comfortable night mode

Stay tuned for further updates!

I've enjoyed using this app for a story I'm writing. However, I am having trouble with the 'find' feature. Rather than locate words, it immediately finds the very first letter type into the search and selects the first time that letter appears. It doesn't even let you scroll through every time it shows up. Overall, it seems to be broken and otherwise impossible to use. Other than that, I have no complaints about this app.

I have been using this app for literal years and currently have ten different books logged within my library and the formatting of this app is perfect. All the places to add details, sections, color co-ordinate, rename things, shuffle placement, and the progress tracker have kept all my ideas in coherent setups so I can refer to them at any point. My only issue at this time is the search/replace function doesn't quite work right, but it's not something to really complain or rate lower about.

It stores your work, so you won't lose it. But, and BIG but here, it's incredibly slow.. After you have over 3,000 words it takes a few seconds for the app to catch up. Really slows you down having to wait a few seconds per letter.. And I've even lost things I wanted to write because the app can't keep up.. Shame, but at least you can use it for storage, looking for another app that doesn't get bogged down, post back when I find it!

Hi Derek, I'm currently working on a new text editor. In the meantime you can take advantage of Novelist's feature by splitting your text into smaller scenes and then recombine them into bigger chapters using the Organize screen. Sorry for the inconvenience. Best regards
