In the event of out-of-hospital cardiac-respiratory arrest (CRA), the "gold standard," defined by international guidelines, is defibrillation within 3-5 minutes of the onset of the arrest, achieving a survival rate of up to 50-70%. Early defibrillation (PD) can be achieved by first responders using publicly accessible or on-site defibrillators (AEDs). The guidelines also recommend the use of innovative technologies to facilitate the rapid deployment of first responders to victims of out-of-hospital cardiac-respiratory arrest (CRA).
The primary objective of this project is to use currently available technologies to immediately and automatically alert lay personnel trained in the use of AEDs, as soon as emergency vehicles are activated by the Emergency Operations Center, thus reducing the time it takes to administer defibrillation to victims of CRA.
The app, developed by Trentino Emergenza in accordance with the Ministry of Health Decree of March 18, 2011, was designed and implemented to promote and streamline the use of AEDs available in the area by certified laypersons (First Responders - BLSD).
The app is fully integrated with Trentino Emergenza's EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER (COE) and allows registered individuals near a Cardiac Arrest (CAR) event to be alerted the moment the COE registers it. Those receiving the alert can then make themselves available to respond. The app displays the registered and available AEDs on a map, based on the time of consultation, and the location of the event requiring intervention.
The app also provides, for collaborative purposes, the option to participate in the system's inventory of AEDs available in the area with the following functions: "report a new AED" and "report a problem."
For each AED, in addition to its location, you can define its availability (days, times) to make it easier to locate in an emergency. You can also manage information regarding maintenance deadlines, with the future goal of increasingly effective monitoring of AED presence in the area.
Finally, the app features a documentation section with useful links, FAQs, procedures, and more.
