About this app

The territory of the Metalliferous Hills in Maremma is naturally suited
slow tourism and soft mobility. This app which is part of a
wider project involving the paths of the whole territory
of the Metalliferous Hills Park which is part of the World Network of
UNESCO geoparks, offers the possibility to discover by walking or going
by bike or on horseback one of the most fascinating Tuscan landscapes and still
little known.

The project of the Municipality of Gavorrano and the Parco delle Colline
Metallifere, it was made possible thanks to funding from the RDP
2014-2020 LEADER METHOD Measure 7.4.2 and the G.A.L. FAR MAREMMA. The end
of the project is to make available to all those who
they want to discover the medieval villages, the cultural and geological heritage
and environment of this corner of Maremma. The app will be implemented and
continuously updated with all the usability services of the
territory that will gradually become fully operational. The Park of the Hills
Metallifere of which the Municipality of Gavorrano is part, was born from the will
not to disperse the history of mining and metallurgy
that have occurred in the area for more than three millennia and that
they have influenced the determination of their cultural landscape. There
safeguarding abandoned mining sites, integrated with significant resources
naturalistic and shining examples of architecture and art
medieval, abundantly existing in the area, make up the Hills
Metalliferous an itinerary for a different tourism. The leitmotif is
the rediscovery of the traces of the mines and the work underground, but
also the environmental value of the woods and wetlands and the great
relevance of the geological heritage represented by significant geosites
regional, national and international.
