Founded in 1979, JGFA is one of Japan's largest and oldest nonprofit sportfishing organizations, with over 3,000 members. In addition to certifying and managing Japan's record catches, the organization also plays an international role as the liaison to the IGFA (International Game Fish Association, Florida, USA) world records. Furthermore, the organization promotes conservation of fishery resources (e.g., tag-and-release and bag limits). It also hosts international billfishing tournaments and offshore fishing events, and is committed to promoting and educating anglers on fishing techniques and proper fishing etiquette through junior fishing seminars and other workshops.

Our philosophy is "Good fishing forever." While emphasizing fair fights with fish, we promote sustainable sportfishing to preserve a rich fishing environment and the joy of fishing for future generations.
