Delay Radar checks whether the trains around you are delayed, and goes one step further: it tells you whether that delay affects the trip you are actually making.

Service information apps tell you which lines are disrupted. Working out whether that matters for your journey is left to you. Delay Radar takes an origin and a destination and answers that question.

■ Scan around you
Finds the stations and lines near your current position and collects the real-time service information published by each railway operator. You can also search by station name without using location.

Nearby stations, nearby bus stops and Toei buses currently running in the area are listed as well.

■ Route verdict
Enter an origin and a destination and the app identifies the lines that connect them from live data, then gives one of three answers.

- Not affected — every line on your route is running normally
- You can route around it — some options are disrupted, but at least one runs normally the whole way
- Affected — every option has service information posted

Direct lines and one-transfer routes are both searched. Interchanges are verified from connection data and the distance between platforms, so stations that merely share a name but sit far apart are excluded.

■ How to get there
Beyond the verdict, the app shows how to actually travel.

- Train — direct lines, one-transfer routes and the list of stops along the way. On loop lines such as the Yamanote Line, both directions are offered
- Bus — Toei bus routes running directly to your destination from a nearby stop, the walking distance to that stop, how many stops to ride, and the stops in between

■ Background notifications
Save up to five places you travel from often — home, work — either from your current location or by station name. The app checks service information at the interval you choose (15, 30 or 60 minutes) and notifies you when a delay appears on a line near one of them.

You can register an origin and destination instead. In that mode, if a transfer route is still running normally end to end, the notification says so.

The periodic check reads the saved coordinates, so it needs no access to your location.

■ Languages
Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese and Korean. The operator's original Japanese wording is kept alongside the translation, so you can show the screen to station staff.

■ Operators covered
JR East, Tokyo Metro, Toei Subway / Toden / Nippori-Toneri Liner, Tobu, Keikyu, Keio, Tokyu, Seibu, Rinkai Line, Yokohama Municipal Subway, Tsukuba Express, Tama Monorail, and Toei Bus.

Lines whose operators do not publish service information are shown as "Not published".

This app uses data provided by the Public Transportation Open Data Center (ODPT). Accuracy and timeliness are not guaranteed and use is at your own risk. Please also check each operator's official announcements for the actual situation.

This app is not a journey planner. It does not calculate travel times or fares, and does not search routes involving two or more transfers.
