About this app

With the JusProg parental control system you can quickly and easily set up a secure surfing room on your child's smartphone or tablet for no charge.

The JusProg app for Android filters while surfing the internet with any browser in the background and blocks websites that are not suitable for children and adolescents.

In the app, several kids profiles with different ages can be set up as well as parent profiles for unrestricted internet use. Age groups: from 0 years, from 6 years, from 12 years and from 16 years.

In the age group from 0 years, this mainly allows the websites of the child search engine fragFINN (small safe surfing room), from 6 years, the surfing space is significantly larger; websites unkown to the system are blocked by default. At ages 12 and 16 and up, unknown pages are allowed in the system, e.g. children can do their homework with the JusProg e.V. parental control program (very large Internet space, but a little less safe).

Unknown web pages undergo a real-time quick check before being displayed in the browser, so-called Unknown web pages undergo a real-time quick check before being displayed in the browser, so-called on-the-fly filtering (OTF). (OTF). OTF is activated in the age groups from 6 and from 12, but can be switched off.

Youtube, Google and Bing automatically turn on safe mode so that minors can not bypass it. Thus, e.g. Horror films on Youtube are filtered and adult images from the image search by Google and Bing are blocked (function is deactivated).

Parents can also share or block websites after entering their parent password. Parents' own lists take precedence over the JusProg filter list or vendor markings.

JusProg's Android app reads age classification from providers in the age-de.xml and age.xml format and then filters it.

The web pages (entire domains) indexed and thus prohibited by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (BPjM) are blocked.

The JusProg filter lists are permanently updated around the clock. The age classification is done by both humans and machines.

Installation and use of the JusProg e.V. app are completely free. Parental control does not include ads, in-app purchases or premium features.

JusProg e.V. is a non-profit association that finances itself substantially through the contributions of its members. These are to a large extent companies of the German internet economy among others.

Data protection

The app does not collect personal data. Parents create profiles for themselves and their children and can freely assign usernames and passwords as well as assign age groups to the children. This data is stored only in the app and is not accessible to JusProg or other third parties.

For the functionality of the Android parental control program, it is inevitable that the app, upon calling up a website by a user (child), sends the called domain and the age encrypted in real time to a JusProg server (Location: Germany) in order to receive information about the age rating. No surfing logs and IP addresses are stored on the server, and data about the call frequency of web pages is only cumulatively to improve the filter list; reference to a single user is not technically possible.

Accessibility Service API

The JusProg app uses Android's Accessibility Service API (screen control) to prevent children from simply turning off or bypassing the app. Access to the settings is prevented. Personal data is not read out via the API.

Technology

The app works as an internal VPN, another VPN cannot be used in parallel. For function and bypass security, the app must be authorised (via Accessibility Service API) to "lock screen", restrict access to the "settings", be activated as a "service" as well as a "device administrator" and the "Private DNS" must be set to "Off". It is recommended to switch off the "optimisation of battery power" for the app.
