Chess for Android is a free, open-source chess app with no ads—just chess. Play offline, compete online, solve puzzles, study positions, and keep your games organized in one place.
PLAY YOUR WAY
• Play offline against the built-in chess engine.
• Connect to Lichess or FICS for online games.
• Create or accept Lichess challenges and continue your ongoing games.
• Choose standard chess, Chess960, or experimental Duck Chess.
• Set up custom positions directly on the board.
TRAIN AND IMPROVE
• Solve puzzles from Lichess.
• Practice with a collection of mate-in-two puzzles and training positions.
• Explore openings with the built-in ECO opening explorer.
• Navigate through moves and review complete games.
MANAGE YOUR GAMES
Save games in a local game database and search by details such as player, event, date, or result. Edit saved games, import and export game files, and share positions or games through other apps.
ACCESSIBLE CHESS
Chess for Android supports screen readers such as TalkBack. Board squares, pieces, moves, and controls provide spoken information to help screen-reader users navigate and play.
The optional Accessibility Drag mode provides another way to move pieces for players who find conventional dragging difficult. Its timing can be adjusted to suit different interaction needs. Accessibility Drag is a separate mode intended for use without TalkBack.
PLAY ON A BIGGER SCREEN
Cast the chessboard to a Chromecast-enabled TV or display, so other people can follow the game on a larger screen.
USE YOUR PREFERRED ENGINE
In addition to the built-in engine, Chess for Android supports the Open Exchange Protocol (OEX), allowing compatible third-party chess engines to be used when installed.
Whether you want a quick offline game, online competition through Lichess, tactical training, accessible chess controls, or a searchable database for your games, Chess for Android gives you a flexible chessboard wherever you go.

Ratings and reviews

Try something else unless you don't care at all. It was the best app, now isn't connecting with my login and password, only as a guest. Full of bugs, no more sounds when game is done or your opponent just get disconnected. When you win or lose you must to go back instead using main menu to choose to play again so annoying. Also full of software opponent, I want to play with human been not playing against a program, very disappointed.

Hello, first of all thank you for your app, as a long-time FICS user I really appreciate it ;-) The latest releases are bugged (at least for Android 6, old tablet) starting from version 9.2.1 (and above) as soon as the app is installed Android become blocked with a repeating message 'Launcher 3 has stopped' (or very similar, french version on my side), downgrade to version 9.2.0 and the app behave appropriately. Also when playing on FICS, the button to flag when time is up doesn't seems to work.
