Once upon a time, a merchant set off for the market and he asked each of his three daughters what she would like as a present on his return.

His third daughter, whose name was Beauty and was the sweetest of them all, said to her father: "All I'd like is a rose that you've picked especially for me!"

When the merchant was setting off for home, a sudden storm blew up, and he shelters at a castle. He went into a garden where a large rose bush caught his eye. Remembering his promise to Beauty, he went to pick one.

Immediately, a horrible beast sprang out of the rose garden and the merchant fell on his knees before it. He said the rose was for his daughter. "I shall spare your life,” said the Beast, “but on one condition, that you bring me your daughter!"

After the merchant returned home, he told his daughters of his dreadful adventure. Beauty put his mind at rest immediately and was led to the castle.

In the beginning, Beauty was frightened of the Beast but her horror gradually faded as time went by.

Then one day, the Beast asked the girl to be his wife. Beauty was surprised and did not know what to say. She tried to postpone her answer.

She told the Beast to allow her seven days to go and visit her father as he was ill and close to death. The Beast agreed with her condition.

When the merchant embraced his daughter again, he was soon on the road to recovery. However, Beauty failed to notice that seven days had gone by.

Then one day, she dreamed that the Beast was dying and calling for her. She quickly ran to the garden and crouched by the Beast.

“Don’t die! Don’t die! I’ll marry you…” she said. At these words, a miracle took place. The Beast magically turned into a handsome young man.

Their wedding took place shortly after. To this day, the castle is known as the Castle of the Rose.
