About this app

Tide Now OR is a tide calculator for the state of Oregon. It displays a tide graph, daily tide table, present tide status, and sun/moon times. It has a built in chart display for each location.

It supports 70 locations organized into 11 regions. The app contains all the tide stations on the Oregon Coast as well as both sides of the Columbia River. There are excerpts of navigation charts to show the selected station.

Off Line Operation- app does not use the internet, it works by calculation.

Predictions are quick the app is simple to use. Use swipe gestures for the next and prior day tides. There are no ads and app cannot access phone features.

User Options

Controls for the user are provided by four action bar icons and six commands in the drop down (...) menu. The action bar controls are Show Chart, Set Location, Set Date, and Refresh. The commands are are Add Station to Favorites, GMap Station (internet), Change Color Scheme, Sun and Moon Info, About Gestures, and Contact Info. Three graphs are available, one with full sun and moon information, one with daylight hours shading, and one with just the graphs.

Accurate Predictions

This app was written using well-known tidal prediction algorithms and publicly available location data. It can be expected to match very closely to federally-published tide tables. It uses the "Harmonic Prediction of Tides" methodology in long use for tide elevation predictions.

Designed for On The Spot Use

The tidal status presentation gives an immediate snapshot of the tide situation, more useful than just a standard list of highs and lows. The display can be refreshed at any time to update this status. This app is designed for use while actively out and about along the waterfront. It uses large text and the the bright color scheme is easily read outdoors.

200 Year Calendar

In addition to today's tides, a date picker is available to choose any date from 1901 to 2100. The app does not have to be refreshed on the new year.

Next Day, Prior Day Swipes

Gestures are supported to go to "next day" and "past day" to step day by day through a range of dates. These operate like turning the page of a book. You can quickly swipe through a range of dates to look for good clam digging days.

Favorites

The selected station can be added to a set of eight favorites. These can be accessed by a down-swipe.

Adjustable Colors

There are five color schemes, good for situations ranging from bright sun to night use. Try each one out depending in which conditions you use the app you can find one that works best.

Pretty good, I have noticed though sometimes it gets set to a different location without my doing intentionally. So either it's an app glitch or it's to easy to move it to other locations and needs a two step process to set in another location.

HI Alice, It takes three successive taps to load a station starting from the location button. The back button gets you out of this process if you change your mind. But it only takes one swipe and one tap to load a favorite. Maybe you are inadvertently loading a saved favorite.

I really love no ads. thank you! also like you can customize your view of it. the finger swipe action is super smooth - but it does hesitate/pause a bit. it would be soooo nice to see one whole month- even one week at a time. good job!!

Thanks K. The small screen is so limiting. I would be very interested in hearing how you would like a weekly or monthly display to work, please let me know tide.now@gmail.com. I would look into it. regarding the scroll. You could try Tide Now USA West. It is more updated and has further features you might like. thanks again

The app merges some locations where the actual tide times are quite different. For example, Barview and Tillamook Bay tide times are significantly different, which is true of the tide times outside of and within any estuary.

Incorrect. All stations within Tillamook Bay are working correctly, I just checked them all.
