Malkim's English-as-a-Like Class App

The English-as-a-Like Class App is a class app that learns 2,342 most frequently used English expressions extracted from the results of big data analysis of 250 million real English conversations built by SCHOOOL. It consists of a total of 4 seasons. The functions built into the app are as follows:

• Lecture Listening to lectures
• Repeat Infinite repetition practice function
• Test Simultaneous interpretation training function
• Sentence repetition count statistical processing

Background of app launch
Based on 250 million English conversations built by the school, the most frequently used English phrases used by native English speakers were extracted. It took a total of 6 years from data construction to AI model development and expression extraction, and even English expression sampling work was completed.

The insights provided by the results were so many that they could be written in several papers. Among them, two insights stand out the most.

First,
“The reason why I can’t speak English is not because I don’t know difficult words or fancy expressions, but because I don’t repeat the most frequently used English expressions, which are mostly easy sentences, enough to be able to use them whenever I want.” The important part here is that I “didn’t repeat the most frequently used English expressions” enough. Because I didn’t know exactly what the most frequently used English expressions were, I wasted my energy on useless things.

Second,
It shows that the English sentences included in the English textbooks currently on the market (including not only Korean textbooks but also ESL textbooks produced in the US and UK) are very different from the sentences that native English speakers actually use most frequently, and that the learning order is wrong.

Among the most frequently used English expressions extracted in this way, I have grouped the expressions that are worth learning in order of highest frequency, excluding the basic expressions that you are familiar with, and made one learning course. The included sentences are not advanced English, but consist of the most frequently used expressions that my mouth and tongue must remember in order to speak English well.
