About this app

Reading Comprehension makes reading something children want to do, and gives teachers and families a real measure of their progress.

The child reads a story, the app measures how long it takes, and then asks questions about what they read. It calculates their speed, comprehension, and retention, and compares these to what is expected for their grade level.

▸ HOW IT WORKS

1. The child logs in with a tap. No email or password is needed.

2. They choose their avatar, name, and grade level.

3. They read a story while the timer runs.

4. They answer the questions without looking back at the text.

5. They see their results with stars, and their progress with each reading.

▸ WHAT IT REALLY MEASURES

• Reading speed in words per minute.

• Comprehension: percentage of correct answers.

• Retention: how much of the text they remember, measured separately from reasoning.

• Effective speed: speed multiplied by comprehension. It penalizes both

reading quickly without understanding and understanding well but reading too slowly.

Everything is compared against the National Reading Proficiency Standards of the
SEP (Mexico), grade by grade, from 1st grade of primary school to 3rd grade of secondary school. Each
result is classified into four levels: requires support, approaching the
standard, at the standard, and advanced.

▸ NOT ONLY HOW MANY ANSWERS WERE MISSED, BUT WHICH SKILL

Each question is labeled by type: literal, inferential, critical,
vocabulary, and sequencing. This reveals whether the problem lies in recalling facts,
deducing what the text suggests, the meaning of words, or the
order of events. From this, specific recommendations are generated for working with
each child.

▸ FOR TEACHERS AND FAMILIES

Create a group (a classroom) or a family and share your code. You will only see the children who join with that code: registering doesn't give you access to anyone else.

• Dashboard showing your group's progress.

• Individual profile for each child, with graphs and recommendations.

• Reports by grade level and export to a spreadsheet.

• You can create your own readings and quizzes. The app analyzes the text as you type and tells you if it's appropriate for the grade you selected, using the Fernández-Huerta and INFLESZ readability indices.

• Children's accounts are anonymous: no email, no phone number, no last name.

• A child can read without joining any group. Therefore, their results are theirs and no one else's.

• They can leave a group at any time without losing their history.

• No advertising. No in-app purchases. No trackers.

50+ original Spanish readings, graded from 1st grade to 9th grade, with 5- to 7-question quizzes: adventure, science, animals, mystery, history, fables, and space.
