About this app

The beginning of our history dates, September 10, 1940, local, United Presbyterian Church of São Paulo (where the organization of the JMN took place).

In the "Bulletin of the National Missions Board of the Presbyterian Christian Church of Brazil - Year I - Num. 1 - May 1946," we find the following information: "The statistics below, referring to last year (1945) idea of progress made: 10 Campos, 9 Ministers, including the Executive Secretary (Rev. José Carlos Nogueira); 1 Church, 2 Presbyterian Congregations, 104 Preaching Points; 678 Members Comungantes; 639 Non-Comandants; 33 E. Dominical, with 1529 students; 13 Women's Societies, with 185 members; 4 Youth Unions, with 79 partners; 4 Youth Leagues, with 92 members; ... "

One witness of the first missionary of the JMN is Sister Leonilda Olivetti Steffen (widow of the Rev. Walter Steffen 1917-1999). This dear sister was present at the service where the lawyer Camilo Fernandes Costa was commissioned to work in Tanabi-SP, she recalls that the hymn sang by the church was "I want to be a vessel of blessing" and, in her opinion, this is the best definition of the NWS: "A vessel of blessing chosen from God, to bring the lost to the new."

The work of this vessel of blessing is reported in two good books: the "History of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil" - Vol. II, Rev. Júlio Andrade Ferreira (CEP - SP) and "Younger Church in Search of Maturity: Presbyterianism in Brazil from 1910 to 1959 "by Paul Everett Pierson (Trinity University Press - San Antonio 1974). In his book, Pierson reports that in 1957 the JMN had already built 27 Presbyterian temples.

In the beginning, the JMN was maintained by the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, Missions of New York and Nashville - USA, but gradually the Brazilian Presbyterians began to finance all the work with missionary offerings. The campaigns of missionary offerings have always had the participation of the whole Presbyterian Church of Brazil and this can be proven by the following excerpt from the aforementioned Bulletin of the JMN of No 1, referring to the 1945 campaign "... Yes, it was the time when the our Master commands us to complete the occupation of our Fatherland for his Kingdom. "

Even today we are all responsible for encouraging and securing the resources that carry forward the missionary work in Brazil. Let us support this work which is not of men, but of God. The permanent campaigns of the JMN provide the opportunity to manifest our love for Missions.

The JMN enters the "third age" full of hope and motivation; his age brings him experience and grows the vision of reaching the Brazilian people for Christ. The grace of God and the missionary dedication of consecrated men and women form the energy of our 75 years, as Bruce Barton says: "Great achievements were only attained by those who believed in themselves to have greater enthusiasm than circumstances."

We thank God for the blessings we have received, congratulations to all who have done the first 75 years of the National Youth Day and to our God the fervent prayer "Make us vessels of blessings, Lord ..."
