MINT (Micro Inertial Navigation Tracker) is the companion app for the MINT inertial-navigation beacon — a small
Bluetooth Low Energy device that tracks movement with an inertial measurement
unit rather than with GPS, so it keeps working indoors where satellite
positioning does not.
The app connects to the beacon over Bluetooth LE and gives you everything needed
to configure it, calibrate its sensors, watch what it is measuring, and record
that data for later analysis.
LIVE TELEMETRY
See the accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer and temperature
readings as they arrive, along with the step counter and the beacon's own
dead-reckoning position. A 3D view shows the device's current attitude and the
path it has travelled.
SENSOR CALIBRATION
Guided procedures for every sensor that needs one:
• Magnetometer — hard- and soft-iron calibration with a live coverage view, so
you can see which orientations still need sampling.
• Accelerometer — six-position calibration.
• Walk tuning — one session measures the gyroscope offset, the step-distance
scale, the step-detection quality and the true-North azimuth of your route.
Every phase is optional, so re-measuring a single quantity does not mean
repeating the whole procedure.
• Declination and gravity — fetched for your position from the NOAA World
Magnetic Model and the WGS84 gravity formula, and written to the beacon so its
heading points at true north where you actually are.
• Pressure and height — barometric scale for vertical movement.
Nothing is written to the beacon until you choose to write it: every procedure
reports what it measured first.
INDOOR MAP
Follow the beacon's trail on a 3D map. Building outlines and indoor floor plans
come from OpenStreetMap, with a floor switcher for multi-level buildings and an
optional satellite view. The trail can be reconciled with the building's
corridors and walls, so a drifting dead-reckoning track is pulled back onto the
floor plan it belongs to.
DATA LOGGING
Record telemetry and algorithm diagnostics to CSV files on your phone, replay a
recorded session on the map, and open or export the files with any app. The logs
stay on your device.
FIRMWARE UPDATES
Check for and install beacon firmware over the air, straight from the app.
WHAT YOU NEED
A MINT inertial beacon, and a phone with Bluetooth LE running Android 12 or
newer. Without a beacon the app opens and can be browsed, but there is nothing
to measure.
PRIVACY
No accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking. Measurements and logs
stay on your device. Location is used only while the app is open — to draw the
map, to anchor a navigation session, and to look up the magnetic declination for
where you are. Full details in the privacy policy.
