Learn Marshallese — the language of the Marshall Islands. Whether you grew up around the language and want to reconnect, or you're starting from zero, this app gives you structured lessons, a growing vocabulary deck, quizzes, and a smart review system that surfaces words right when you're about to forget them.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• Lessons — short chapters covering greetings, family, food, numbers, navigation, weather, and more, each with notes on spelling, pronunciation, and cultural context.
• Vocabulary — hundreds of curated entries, each showing the official Marshallese spelling, the common spelling many speakers actually use, an English translation, example usage, and human-recorded audio where available.
• Quizzes — multiple-choice and recall practice drawn from your active words and any custom lists you build.
• Spaced repetition — the home screen tells you exactly how many words are due today. Intervals grow as you get better at a word, so your time goes to what you actually need to practice.
• Custom word lists — add words you hear from family, see at church, or pick up at community events. Your lists feed straight into quizzes and reviews.
• Daily goal and streak — a ring that fills as you study and a streak counter to help the habit stick. Optional daily reminder at a time you choose.
• Heritage and L2 paths — designed alongside heritage learners, not just outsiders. Headwords default to spellings speakers actually recognize when reading their own language.
HONEST ABOUT AUDIO
Marshallese has a small body of digital recordings, and we will not fake the sound of the language with text-to-speech. Where there's a verified human recording, you'll hear it. Where there isn't, the app says so plainly. Growing the audio library is an ongoing community effort, and you can help by recording your own pronunciations and sharing them through the in-app Contribute screen.
PRIVACY BY DESIGN
• No ads. No third-party analytics. No Firebase, no Google Analytics, no advertising IDs.
• Works fully offline. Your progress, streaks, and custom lists never leave your device unless you choose to share something.
• Voice recording is opt-in. Recordings stay on your phone until you explicitly mark one "Ready to share" and tap Send.
• Submissions carry no name, no email, and no persistent device identifier — every submission is anonymous and unlinkable.
The full privacy policy is available in-app and at jc2dev.net.
FREE, WITH A TIP JAR
No subscriptions. No paywalls. No premium tier. No ads. Every feature is available to every user. If the app is useful to you and you want to chip in, there's an optional tip option — that's it.
BUILT WITH THE COMMUNITY
Marshallese has roughly 20,000 speakers, and standard spelling was only formalized around the year 2000, which is why many words have several correct forms. This app respects both the official and the common spellings, and ships fixes quickly when you find a mistake. Use the in-app Contribute screen to send corrections, suggest new words, or share a pronunciation. Approved contributions may be shared with the Marshallese Educational Initiative (MEI) and other recognized partners working on language preservation — only after you accept the in-app consent dialog.
