Akuma-kun is a Japanese manga by Shigeru Mizuki.
A story about a boy called ``Akuma-kun'' who borrows the power of demons and fights to bring peace to the world. This is one of Mizuki's masterpieces, which was born out of his feelings of righteous indignation toward society, and it is also a work that made widely known the occult world of magic circles and spells, which were generally little known.
Starting with a rental manga in 1963, ``Weekly Shonen Magazine'' in 1966, ``Weekly Shonen Jump'' in 1970, ``Comic BE!'' in 1987, ``Monthly Comic Bonbon'' in 1988, and a newly illustrated book in 1993. The series was published intermittently in different magazines. The works are roughly divided into three series with different protagonists: Ichiro Matsushita in the rental version, Shingo Yamada in the ``Shonen Magazine'' version, and Shingo Umeki in the ``Comic Bonbon'' version. The book has been published many times in different formats, and can be read in paperback or as an e-book. In addition, all works have been reprinted in the ``Mizuki Shigeru Manga Complete Works''.
The video work is the special effects TV drama ``Akuma-kun'', which was broadcast from 1966 to the following year. It is based on the Shonen Magazine version, and is the first Mizuki work to be made into a film. In 1986, a one-shot TV drama was broadcast on Monday Dramaland, and in 1987, an original video starring Akuma-kun and Kitaro was released. A TV anime was broadcast from 1989 to the following year, and two theatrical versions were also produced. All video works have been released on DVD, except for the Monday Dramaland version. It has also been announced that a new anime will be produced in 2021.
