About this app

TrackerControl Slim is an Android app that allows users to STUDY the widespread, ongoing, hidden data collection in mobile apps about user behaviour (‘tracking’).

To detect tracking, TrackerControl combines the power of the Disconnect tracker list, used by Firefox, and our in-house tracker list, created from analysing ~2 000 000 apps!

Additionally, TrackerControl detects tracker libraries in apps using the signatures from ClassyShark3xodus/Exodus Privacy for the analysis of tracker libraries within app code.

The app also aims to educate about your rights under Data Protection Law, such the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Under the hood, TrackerControl uses Android’s VPN functionality, to analyse apps’ network communications locally on the Android device. This is accomplished through a local VPN server, to enable network traffic analysis by TrackerControl.

No root is required, other VPNs or Private DNS are not supported. No external VPN server is used, to keep your data safe!

This is the best application of its kind that I have found. Feedback: the map rendering is a tiny bit off on my device but its really just a cosmetic issue. Maybe just on Lineage OS. Feature request: show more aggregate data from all trackers such as on the country maps. You guys did an incredible job on this.

I’ve not been able to figure out the issue with the map. I like the idea of aggregate statistics. Please do send an email and do tell more about how TC should change:

Great tool to control hidden trackers. One thing to note is that the full TC app from F-droid triggers a [presumably] false positive "trojan" alert on certain security apps (e.g. Lookout), while the "slim" version from the Play Store does not. Im not sure why, but im not knocking stars because of it. it is probably due to some of the extra features on the full version. I did find it interesting, though. All in all, good tool to have around. Keep it up, dev(s).

This is really interesting. All apps are basically identical. What caused false positives with antivirus in the past for me is the list of tracker domains that is shipped with the app. This list contains many suspicious locations (although these are NEVER opened, but rather needed to find any other app contacting such domains).

This app is awesome! It has helped me uncover so much bs in apps I thought were cool, but we're actually data thieving spybots. A grateful thanks to the team. Five stars.
