About this app
Ether is a geographic chat. The world is divided into nested channels, and you automatically
connect to those where you are: from your neighborhood to the entire world.
HOW IT WORKS
Ether determines your location and selects a chain of channels:
• Block - the most local: neighbors, yard, nearby streets
• District - what's happening nearby
• City - the general city channel
• Region and Country - the broadest coverage
• Planet - one channel for the entire world
All channels are connected immediately. At the start, a list of chats is displayed in the same order:
the closest one is at the top, then progressively wider ones, all the way to the planet. When you enter a channel, you can only read and write to it, and it's always clear to whom your message is being sent.
Geolocation is optional. If you don't want to provide it, select a point on the map manually,
and Ether will open there. You can change it at any time.
WHAT'S INSIDE
• Chat list: each channel displays the latest reply and a counter for new ones
• Threads: you can reply to any message; the conversation will be collected under it and won't clutter the channel feed
• Votes: you can mark someone else's message with a plus or minus
• Delete your own message; it will disappear for everyone
• Notifications about new messages and replies to you - open directly where you wrote
• Ether News - a separate feed under the planet: what's new in the app
• Login with Apple, Google, or Telegram - no passwords or SMS
• Dark theme, no extras
ABOUT PRIVACY
Your exact coordinates are not stored on the server: they are only needed to
determine which administrative districts your location corresponds to. Messages
are stored for 7 days and are deleted automatically; threads are deleted 7 days after the last
reply. You can delete any of your messages earlier by long-pressing on them;
Replies to it are also deleted. Your account is also deleted directly in the app, along with all your messages.
RULES
Live is a conversation with real people nearby. Advertising, spam, insults, and illegal content are prohibited. Any message can be reported; complaints are investigated, and violators are removed.
Votes don't hide anything and don't publicly display people's ratings.
They only affect the tempo: those who are regularly downvoted experience a slowdown in live streams.
District and city boundaries are taken from OpenStreetMap, open data maintained by the community.
