Play Dead is the official Grateful Dead streaming app, offering unprecedented hi-res access to the Grateful Dead Vault of live recordings.

For the first time, the band’s live legacy is brought together in a single official streaming service, with newly transferred and mastered recordings from the original sources.

Previously unreleased shows - called Dead Drops - will be available every Tuesday, augmenting the catalog of official live Grateful Dead releases, many of which have never been available on any streaming service.

This is a dream come true. The Dead sure have a way of collecting hundred dollar bills off of us Every Year, but I ain't complainin'! I'm privileged for the privilege. This has everything put out on CD (Dave's Picks included!) plus certain shows throughout the years, with two more from the vault added every Tuesday! I never rate apps but after 10 minutes with this I felt I had to. 10 bucks a month, hundo for the year. It's why we work.

skeptical Audiophile perspective: I have been a regular archive streamer for years and augment with a hq Tidal/Qobuz subscription. I was skeptical I would find this app useful, but I was wrong. The remasters are fantastic and there's plenty of variety in eras I might not have fully explored, with more shows added weekly. Most importantly, the Estates of our boys are getting a much greater $ cut from this than from other subscription streaming platforms. Easily worth the $10 a month!

The selections are great and for the most part the app is well organized, but the Google cast function does not work properly. the only way I can get Google cast to work is to switch to the nugs app, cast, change it back to the phone, and then go back to the play dead app and then cast will connect
