Swipe in any direction. Every tile slides that way as far as it can, and two equal numbers that meet merge into one. That is the whole game.
Can you reach 2048?
TwoFold comes from Accessible Apps, a studio whose name is meant literally: this is one of the few games you can play at full speed without looking at the screen.
▸ HOW IT PLAYS
• Swipe anywhere on the board: no target to hit, no button to find
• Two tiles showing the same number merge into their total, which is added to your score
• A new tile arrives after every move; the game ends when nothing can move
• Take a move back whenever you like, as far back as you like
▸ THREE BOARDS, THREE GAMES
• 4 by 4 is the classic: tight, quick, unforgiving, and 2048 is the goal
• 5 by 5 and 6 by 6 give the same rules more room, and set higher goals to match
• Your best score is kept separately for each, because they are not the same achievement
• Reaching the goal does not end anything: the board is where you left it, and the next number is waiting
▸ BUILT TO BE PLAYED WITHOUT LOOKING
This is not an afterthought. It is why the game exists.
• Every move is spoken: what merged, what it became, where the new tile landed, and the score
• Move your finger over the board and each cell says its position and its number
• Ask for the whole board at any time and hear the tiles that are on it, without the empty cells
• Arrow buttons instead of swipes, turned on automatically when a screen reader is running, because a screen reader uses swipes for its own navigation
• Undo never runs out, so a swipe read as the wrong direction can never end your game
▸ MADE TO BE READ
• Three sets of tile colours (bright, soft, or a single hue), and all three keep the same rule: the bigger the number, the more its tile stands out. The order survives greyscale and every kind of colour vision
• Every number is checked for contrast against the tile behind it, in light and dark alike
• A choice of two fonts, including Atkinson Hyperlegible, designed for low vision with no two letters alike
• The chosen font applies to the numbers as well as the words, because on this board the numbers are what you read
• Follows your system's text size, all the way up
▸ QUIET BY DESIGN
• Plays offline; nothing to sign up for and no account to make
• Your game is saved after every move and is exactly where you left it
• One small advertisement above the board, and never over it or between moves
• Available in 72 languages, right-to-left ones included
Swipe. Equal numbers merge.
