Lectern is an offline eBook reader for EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, MOBI, AZW, AZW3, FB2 and comics. Read books, listen with text-to-speech, and follow along with synchronized text highlighting. No account, no subscription, and no unnecessary clutter. Just open a book and start reading.

Your library, reading progress and settings stay on your device. Lectern works completely offline unless you choose to connect a sync folder or OPDS catalog yourself.

Open EPUB, EPUB3, MOBI, AZW, AZW3, FB2, FBZ, TXT and PDF files in a single reading app. Read comics through CBZ and CBR archives. PDFs can be viewed in their original layout, reflowed for easier reading, or listened to with text-to-speech.

🎧 Text-to-speech with synchronized highlighting

Turn any book into an audiobook with built-in text-to-speech support. Follow every sentence with synchronized text highlighting while listening. Control playback from your lock screen, notification panel or Bluetooth headphones. A sleep timer can automatically stop playback at the end of a chapter.

Install natural sounding offline Piper voices in English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Italian.

✍️ Comfortable reading for everyone

Customize margins, line spacing, paragraph spacing, font weight, hyphenation and drop caps. Import your own fonts or choose one of the built-in reading profiles:

The Dyslexia profile uses OpenDyslexic fonts, comfortable spacing and gentle color tints for easier reading.

Choose between Light, Dark, Sepia and OLED Black themes.

📈 Reading statistics and goals

Track reading streaks, daily reading goals and long-term habits with a multi-year reading heatmap. See estimated time remaining for books and chapters, total reading time, average session length and reading history.

🔖 Highlights, bookmarks and notes

Create highlights and bookmarks with notes. Export your highlights to Markdown or JSON. Import Kindle My Clippings and keep all your notes organized in one place.

Rate books, mark them as Did Not Finish, and organize your collection using nested shelves and series.

📖 Built-in dictionary and vocabulary trainer

Tap any word to view offline dictionary definitions powered by WordNet. Save words to your vocabulary trainer and improve retention with a smart spaced repetition system based on SM-2 learning.

Use multiple folders as your library through Android's Storage Access Framework without intrusive storage permissions.

Sync reading progress, bookmarks, highlights and statistics through shared folders on Google Drive, Dropbox, Nextcloud or OneDrive.

Browse OPDS catalogs such as Project Gutenberg or your own Calibre-Web library. Share books directly to Lectern from any app.
