About this app

Mijn Momentje (Dutch for "my little moment") is a calm drawing and play app for children aged 4 to 8. No ticking clock, no lives to lose, no ads cutting in. Just a little moment of their own.

Sound familiar? You give your child to screen-time draw in peace, and within a minute something goes off. A video starting to scream. A lock appearing after five minutes. The Play Store opening by accident. And the question of why a simple kids' app actually needs data.

I kept running into that exact problem. At some point, I decided to just build it myself.

WHAT IS NOT IN IT

🚫 No ads
🚫 No in-app purchases, no subscriptions
🚫 No accounts and no logging in
🚫 No tracking; the app collects nothing
🚫 No internet access: the app cannot send anything out

WHAT IS IN IT

✔️ Free drawing on a blank canvas, with brushes of various thicknesses, stamps, and cheerful effects
✔️ 42 coloring pages, ranging from simple shapes for the youngest to more detailed designs
✔️ Take a photo and color right over top of it
✔️ Six games: Word game, Riddle game, Tangram, Seek & Find, Maze, and Tic-Tac-Toe
✔️ Each game has three levels, from preschool to grade 2, so it grows with them
✔️ 60 words, 210 riddles, and 25 tangram figures: it doesn't get repetitive fast
✔️ Save creations to a personal gallery, print them out, or send them to grandparents

CALMLY DESIGNED

Children earn stars by drawing, coloring, and playing. This unlocks new coloring pages and earns them one of 20 collectible rewards. A wrong answer costs nothing: if they miss, they can simply try again. You can adjust how quickly the stars come in yourself.

FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS

• Settings, printing, and forwarding a drawing are protected by a simple math problem that is easy for an adult and too difficult for a toddler
• A child lock with PIN code, so a child cannot easily leave the app
• See how much time has been spent in the app and set a friendly break reminder
• Read-aloud function for children who cannot read yet: tap the speaker icon to hear a sentence. This requires a Dutch voice to be installed on the tablet; the app explains how to set that up
• If you want to color a photo, the app opens your tablet's camera app. Mijn Momentje does not require camera permission itself, and the photo stays on the device
• Everything your child makes stays on the tablet unless you forward it yourself
• Fully available in Dutch and English

ABOUT THE CREATOR
Mijn Momentje was made by one person, in spare time, for children in my own circle. There is no company behind it and no testing department: every screen was conceived, drawn, and tested by the same person. That is precisely why there are no ads in it and the app collects nothing. Nobody needs to make a profit off of it.
