On 11 October 1992, presented Pope John Paul II the faithful throughout the world Catechism of the Catholic Church, which he characterized as "a reference text for a catechesis renewed out of faith living sources". Thirty years after the opening of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) became the desire that the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops had uttered in the year 1985, namely to draw up a catechism for all the Catholic religious and moral teachings, met.
