The mobile app Oil palm crop doctor Mizo is an interactive app that disseminates information readily and from correct source to oil palm stakeholders in Mizo language. It enables the farmer / user to send queries to ICAR-IIOPR and receive the required information.
The app has four modules viz., (i) Pests, Diseases and Deficiencies (ii) Fertilizer Calculator (iii) Enquiry and (iv) Crop Videos. It also has a side menu which displays the options of Home, About Oil Palm Crop Doctor, Contact Us and Logout.
Installation of the mobile app Oil palm crop doctor starts with registration wherein the farmer / user registers on the login page, using his / her mobile number. On completing the registration the launching screen appears followed by the dashboard screen of the app which displays four options viz., pests, diseases and deficiencies; fertilizer calculator; enquiry and crop videos.
The module on Pests, diseases and deficiencies displays the respective images of oil palm pests, diseases and deficiencies in a grid. On selection of specific image the information about symptoms and control measures of the specific pest, disease and deficiency is displayed. Option to view a video clip is also available if there is a video attached.
The Fertilizer calculator module calculates the amount of fertilizer to be applied based on selected fertilizers. The result is displayed on per palm or per acre or per hectare basis based on the selection. The activity also displays the total amount of the fertilizers required for the total are of oil palm plantation.
Enquiry can be sent to ICAR-IIOPR in the form of text and voice along with image and video. IIOPR replies to the query raised. Chat enables the app users to communicate to each other.
Short video clips on cultivation of oil palm are made available to the user to view the recommended practices.
The app needs internet connectivity at the time of installation and to use the third activity viz., Enquiry. For all the other activities, the app works offline.
