CallShield: Scam Call Blocker

X Technologies LLC

About this app

CallShield helps you stop answering calls you never wanted in the first place.

Every night it gathers numbers that people across the country have reported as scams, scores them, and sends the list to your phone. The ones with the strongest evidence against them are stopped before your phone rings. The rest are silenced and show as missed calls with a note from CallShield, so you know something before you call back.

WHAT IT DOES

• Stops the numbers with the strongest evidence against them before the phone rings
• Silences the rest and leaves a note, so you have something to go on
• Lets you check any number against the list, right on the phone
• Lets you report a number in a few taps, which helps everyone else using CallShield
• Explains how each kind of scam works, so it is familiar if you ever hear it
• Anyone saved in your Contacts always rings through. Android decides that, not CallShield

ONE GLANCE TELLS YOU IF IT IS WORKING

The shield on the home screen turns green when calls are being checked and tells you in plain words when something still needs switching on. Android lets one app check incoming calls, and one tap makes CallShield that app.

WHERE THE LIST COMES FROM

Numbers come from public consumer complaint records kept by federal agencies, together with CallShield's own review of numbers reported to us. More than 800,000 numbers are on the list, and it is rebuilt every night and refreshed on your phone every day.

CallShield is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency.

ALWAYS YOUR DECISION

Scam numbers change daily, and no call blocker can recognize one that has never been reported. So CallShield shows you what it knows, labels anything it is unsure about, and leaves the choice with you. Any number it silences can be allowed again in a single tap, and any number it lets through can be blocked just as easily. You can also choose to be warned only, with nothing stopped.

YOUR CALLS STAY YOURS

Matching happens on your phone, against the list already downloaded. CallShield does not record your calls, does not read your contacts or messages, and keeps no record of the calls it screened. Nothing about your calls leaves the phone. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to. The only thing that is ever sent is a number you deliberately choose to report.

CLEAR AND SIMPLE TO USE

Plain words, large text, and a screen that tells you what is happening rather than leaving you to work it out. Four large buttons on the home screen: Blocking, Check a number, Tips and Settings. Eight color themes, so you can set it to whatever is easiest for you to read.

FREE FOR 3 DAYS, THEN AN ACCESS CODE

The first 3 days are free. No card, no account and nothing is charged. After that, CallShield keeps working with an access code bought at callshield.me, under 7¢ a day. A code can also be bought as a gift for a parent or anyone you worry about.
