What is the Chiemgauer?

The Chiemgauer is a regional currency that specifically promotes sustainable consumption and the local economy. It was launched in 2003 as a student project at the Chiemgau Waldorf School in Prien and has since developed into an established regional currency system.

One Chiemgauer is worth one euro. Citizens can use it to shop at participating partners in their region. The Chiemgauer offers numerous advantages for the region: Since the regional currency circulates exclusively in the local economy, it specifically strengthens local businesses and promotes regional value creation. Furthermore, with every euro exchanged for Chiemgauer, a percentage is donated to charitable projects in the region. This way, not only local businesses but also social and cultural initiatives benefit from the use of the Chiemgauer.

The Chiemgauer is available in the districts of Traunstein, Rosenheim, and Berchtesgadener Land. Private individuals can participate as "private participants," as can companies, public institutions, and associations as "collection points."

With the payment app, the Chiemgauer can now also be used digitally.

How does the payment app work?

• The app is based on the "Cyclos" system.
• Registration takes place after downloading.
• The Chiemgauer can then be used digitally as a means of payment.
• For the payment function, the IBAN is stored and the SEPA direct debit procedure is agreed upon.

Paying with the app

• Payments are made by scanning the QR code of the collection point or by selecting the recipient in the user directory (only companies are publicly visible).
• The desired amount is entered and immediately credited to the recipient's user account.
• The Chiemgauer can also be easily transferred between friends via QR code or username.
• The daily account limit is 250 CH (Chiemgauer) and can be individually adjusted.
