Drift is a real video editor for your phone: a multi-track timeline, effects, captions and a proper export — with no watermark stamped on your work, no account to create, and nothing to subscribe to.
It is free and open source under the GPLv3, built by CutWire Studios in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The same editor runs on Linux, Windows and macOS, and projects move between them.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
A timeline that behaves like an editor
Stack video, audio, text, stickers and shapes across as many layers as the edit needs. Trim, split with the blade, duplicate, merge adjacent clips, separate audio from video, freeze a frame, and snap clips into place. Set a work area to render just the section you care about. Every change is undoable.
Looks in seconds
GPU effects and transitions preview on your own footage, so you choose with your eyes instead of guessing from a name. Effect templates apply a whole styled look in one tap.
Text, stickers and shapes
Titles and captions you type, emoji and sticker graphics, boxes, circles and lines — placed directly on the canvas.
Captions from the speech itself
Generate timed subtitles from a talking clip, then fix the wording and the timing line by line on a dedicated subtitle track. Speech recognition runs on your own device. Your audio is never uploaded.
Audio that sits right
Audio effects, volume and fades, so narration and music stop fighting each other.
Cut to the beat
Detect the beat of a music track and get markers on the timeline to cut against.
Multicam
Watch several angles at once and punch between them.
Scene detection
Split a long recording at its shot changes instead of scrubbing for every cut by hand.
Export that matches the preview
Export uses your device's own hardware encoder at the quality preset you pick. The same compositor draws the preview and the final file, so what you signed off on is what you get.
Projects that travel
Save a project, reopen it later, or save a shareable copy that packages the edit with its media so nothing breaks when a file moves.
PRIVACY
Your media never leaves your device. No video, audio, project file, transcript or export is ever uploaded — to us or to anyone else. Drift has no account system, no telemetry, no analytics and no advertising.
Drift touches the network for exactly two things: checking whether a newer version has been released, and downloading optional extras you choose to install, such as fonts, sticker packs and speech models. Both can be avoided, and neither one identifies you.
