About this game

Descend to the Underworld and live among myths as the deity of spring!

"Fields of Asphodel" is a 1.3 million-word interactive novel by JJ Laurier. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Forced into an arranged marriage with the God of the Dead, only you can decide what to make of your new life. Befriend misfit deities, repel giant attacks, find the culprit behind the river goddess's mysterious illness, and use your powers to nudge Fate in your favor! Decide what kind of deity you want to be—whether you'll answer prayers, how you'll develop your powers, and what role you'll take in governance.

• Play as male, female, or nonbinary; gay, straight, bi, asexual, or poly.
• Play as neurodivergent or neurotypical.
• Take on the powers of spring and life.
• Find love and friendship among the gods of the ancient Greek Underworld.
• Develop your abilities and hobbies, and choose the kind of life you want to live.
• Grow a garden in the Underworld.
• Defend the realm, advise the King, and solve a mystery.
• Make a new home, or seize the opportunity to return to your old one.

gotta be honest it's been pretty dry. The introduction was fun but the world-building is too much. There aren't enough interactions with characters you're trying to romance. Even though the characters do seem really interesting and worth getting to know there just aren't opportunities showing up yet. I still haven't finished the first three chapters though so idk if this'll change later on.

I got into this game and was kind of disappointed in the end. It's meandering and kind of pointless. The writing is ok. Could use some help. If i never see the word "wry" written again, it'll be too soon. I wonder if the author knows it means "dry, mocking humor"? It doesnt really work with the character anyway, but it's used 1,000 times and i hate it. The choices are largely inconsequential and the romances don't go anywhere. Stats menu sucks. Characters have their own voices which is good.

Loved this story! So much so, it's one of only a very few online games I've bought the full version of. After only a few chapters, I had to know what happened next. SO well written. The story is natural and flows easily, with much thought and detail put into characters and character development. Very replayable. I love how these mythical gods are brought to life . I can't wait for more games from this author, and hopefully, a sequel to this one. Superb game and very well worth the money!
