About this app

Glory to God is a Mobile edition of the ecumenical hymnal Glory to God, with razor-sharp music, powerful search capabilities, sample piano recordings of hymns, interesting information about hymns and their authors, and the ability to access several different versions of hymns including pew, accompaniment, large print, projection, lead sheet, and instrumental (strings, brass, and woodwinds).

This free app includes the pew version of over 400 of the public domain hymns in Glory to God including favorites such as “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling,” “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” and “Take My Life and Let It Be.” You can add various editions of the hymnal, which include copyrighted as well as public domain hymns, with in-app purchases:
• Pew $19.99
• Large Print $24.99
• Accompaniment $49.99
• Accompaniment with FlexScores $99.99

For each hymn there is a page of information that may include a description of the hymn, a brief biography of the author or composer, and information for worship leaders such as performance suggestions and available arrangements. A brief audio clip is also available.

The search box allows you to search for hymns by first line, author, composer, topic, or scripture passages quoted or alluded to. A handy keypad lets you jump immediately to a hymn by number.

The Accompaniment with FlexScores edition includes everything in the other editions and adds our revolutionary FlexScores for most of the hymns. These include large print, lead sheet, projection, and instrumental versions. Users are able to adjust the music and text size of the scores and transpose them.

The versions offered for FlexScores include accompaniment, pew, lead sheet, projection, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, alto saxophone, soprano or tenor saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, and tuba. For the instrumental versions, the music is transposed into an appropriate range and displayed in an appropriate clef for the instrument. The projection version enables you to connect your device to a projector and project hymns onto a screen.

A network connection is required to play audio samples and view FlexScores for GG2013.

Please add a loop after the audio completes. Listener can manually end the audio at end of hymn. Currently, disconcerting when audio stops after first verse! By coding the audio to loop, the audio file size still remains one verse long. But, if you also want to retain current behavior, a setting switch is straightforward. But I am surprised the looping was not included! Singing hymns is a serious matter.

The app is a digital edition of the print hymnal with value added by providing audio snippets to give a taste of what the hymn sounds like (not to accompany singing. The issue is copyright on sound recordings. Hymnary.org has resources for audio files, including hymnary.org/hymnal/scm and My.Hymnary.org (which also has an app).

Makes picking hymns easier. You can listen to the tunes to evaluate difficulty/familiarity.
