The Kawthoolei Ecosystem Resilience and Biodiversity Watch Application (KERBWA), which means "stewards of the forest" in Karen, is used by Karen communities across Kawthoolei to monitor and report illegal activities—such as logging, mining, and hunting—as well as to track local wildlife and plant species. The data collected is analyzed and shared with community leaders, policy makers, and the wider Karen public to support forest protection and biodiversity conservation. By providing a structured and accessible way to gather information, the KERBWA app strengthens community-led efforts to safeguard Kawthoolei’s forests and promotes Indigenous stewardship of natural resources.
