What is the Climate Bonus?

The Climate Bonus is a regional, digital currency designed to specifically strengthen sustainable consumption and the local economy. Citizens can use the Climate Bonus to shop with selected partners in their region, thus contributing to climate protection. The Climate Bonus stays in the region and circulates there to strengthen the community.

One Climate Bonus is worth one euro.

The Climate Bonus is currently available in five regions: Chiemgau, Lüneburg, Leipzig, Flensburg, and Burgwald-Ederbergland with Marburg. Private individuals can participate as "private participants," as can companies, public institutions, and associations as "acceptance points."

How does the payment app work?

- The app is based on the "Cyclos" system.
- After downloading, you can register for a region.
- After completing registration, the Climate Bonus can be used digitally as a means of payment.
- For the payment function, the IBAN is stored and the SEPA direct debit procedure is agreed upon.

Paying with the app

- Payments are made by scanning a QR code from the acceptance point or by selecting the recipient in the user directory (only companies are publicly visible).
- The desired amount is entered, and the payment is immediately transferred to the recipient's Cyclos account.
- The climate bonus can also be easily transferred between friends via QR code or username.
- The daily account limit is 250 KB (climate bonuses), but can be customized.
