VotePeer is an open-source voting app built on Nexa. Every ballot is a Nexa transaction, so anyone can check the result and nobody has to trust the organiser.
VOTE
• See the elections you take part in, the ones you host and the public ones.
• Open an election to read the question and the options, choose one and vote from your phone. The app shows what the vote costs before you send it.
• Transparent elections: everyone can see on the blockchain what each participant voted.
• Anonymous elections: your ballot carries a ring signature. It proves that the vote comes from one of the participants without showing which one, and a second ballot from the same person is not counted. Nobody can see what you voted, only that someone in the group voted.
• The result is counted from the blockchain, and your own vote shows once it is recorded in a block.
CREATE
• Create an election in four steps: the question and options, the participants, when voting closes, and a review. Choose transparent or anonymous.
• Add participants by scanning the QR code of their Nexa ID, by pasting or typing it, or add a whole voter group.
• Keep voter groups, such as a board or a club, to add to the next election.
• Share the election's link once it is created.
YOUR NEXA ID
• The app makes your identity, a Nexa key, on your phone. There is no username, password or email address.
• Your Nexa ID is shown as text and as a QR code to give to election organisers, with the balance that pays for your votes.
• Your 12-word recovery phrase is encrypted on your phone with a key that needs your fingerprint, face or screen lock. With Back up with Google (on by default when the phone has a screen lock), an end-to-end encrypted copy that only your screen lock can unlock is in your Google backup, so a new phone set up from that backup, or a reinstall, gets the same identity back. You can turn it off and keep the phrase on this phone only.
• Restore an identity from its recovery phrase.
• Sign in to votepeer-nexa.web.app: press Login on the website and scan its QR code with the app. No password is sent or stored.
PAYING FOR A VOTE
• A vote is a small Nexa transaction, paid in NEX from your Nexa ID. An anonymous ballot can be paid by the VotePeer faucet or from another wallet instead, straight to the ballot's own addresses; paying it from your Nexa ID shows how you voted.
• Not enough NEX for a vote? The VotePeer faucet sends your Nexa ID enough NEX for a vote, once every 5 minutes.
• No wallet sync: the app only asks a Nexa server for the balances of its own few addresses, so it is ready as soon as it opens.
GOOD TO KNOW
• Votes on the Nexa blockchain are public. In transparent elections anyone can see how each participant voted.
• Pay an anonymous ballot from a wallet that is not linked to you; otherwise that payment can link you to your anonymous ballot.
• VotePeer has no in-app purchases and does not sell or exchange NEX.
VotePeer is free and open source (MIT), with no ads and no tracking. It is developed by Bitcoin Unlimited for the Nexa community. Powered by Nexa.
