First Note is an app for practicing music and solfege at home. It is designed for children attending music school and their teachers. It is also an excellent tool for teachers, allowing them to assign homework and monitor its completion.
Students practice independently: the app explains each task, plays sounds through a high-quality piano synthesizer, checks answers, and provides hints when something goes wrong. Teachers can view statistics, assign homework, and receive helpful guidance—even if they have never studied music themselves.
SINGING AND INTONATION
The student sings into the microphone, and the app shows in real time whether they are singing the correct note. The C major scale, stable scale degrees, neighboring-tone exercises, and melody repetition—all with real-time pitch feedback.
RHYTHM
Rhythmic patterns using quarter notes and eighth notes in 2/4 and 3/4 time. The student taps the rhythm on the screen in time with the metronome, and the app shows whether they are keeping the beat.
MUSIC THEORY
Notes in the treble and bass clefs, key signatures, building intervals and triads, and stable scale degrees—all presented on an interactive staff with instant feedback.
DICTATION WITHOUT THE STRESS
Thirteen types of exercises, ranging from simple tasks—such as identifying the direction of a melody or counting the number of sounds—to complete melodic dictations from Ladukhin’s collection. Identify an interval, recognize a chord, write down a rhythm, assemble a melody from cards, or fill in a missing note—all as part of step-by-step exam preparation.
HOMEWORK
The student selects their grade level and exercise type, then receives a step-by-step plan: warm-up, main exercise, and review. Like having a tutor right on your phone.
FOR TEACHERS
• Practice statistics: minutes spent, exercises completed, and consecutive days practiced
• Assignments with deadlines and completion requirements
• Guidance for every exercise: what it develops, why it matters, and how to assess the student
• Clear explanations of concepts such as scales and stable scale degrees, written for adults without a musical education
SOUND QUALITY
A built-in piano synthesizer powered by SoundFont technology. No short samples—every note is reproduced in full, from the lowest A to the upper registers.
PRIVACY
The app works entirely offline. There are no ads, analytics, tracking, or payments. All data is stored exclusively on the device.
First Note does not replace a teacher—it helps students practice at home every day and enables teachers to stay informed and provide support, even to adults who cannot read music.
