It's functional and not overly buggy. Sort of outdated as the busses themselves are getting more advanced than this app is. Needs NFC to work now, which isn't a problem for me personally, but for others it might be. It seems that the recent update came where they resolved a few issues and left the rest of them open for whoever to work on it, I've no real problems that lead to this app being unusable but it badly needs an update before it reaches that point because it's getting real close.

It's always a crapshoot. Maybe it will work fine. Maybe it won't scan at all. Maybe it will charge the wrong card. I have used this app with 4 generations of Samsung Galaxy phone (s6, s10, s20, s22), and it has been unreliable across all of them. In fact, it has managed to get worse as time goes on. It's hard to say whether the issue is with the app itself or with the scanning equipment, but either way, Hop is the problem.

The previous TriMet app was user friendly, always worked, and did not require a third party wallet to use. The hop fastpass app has a non intuitive interface, constantly fails to work as you are boarding the bus, requires a third party wallet (and the only supported providers are known for their policies of privacy invasion) and simply will not work on any phone more than a couple of years old. Amazingly enough it is easier to always have exact change before boarding the bus... or simply stop using TriMet.
