The app doesn't crash as much as it used to, but it still randomly crashes at the worst times. Also, when you're done and then close the app, the widget in the notification bar never goes away unless you go to the WNYC app info and "force stop" it. I give it 4 stars instead of 3 because this app is the most convenient way for me to listen to NPR when I'm not in my car or at home. My phone has an FM Tuner, but only works if you plug in wired headphones (I use Bluetooth).

How can I love a station so much, and hate it's app almost as passionately?? I could deal with the constant crashing (frequently right in the middle of an important interview) if I then wasn't subjected to a 'commercial' (the same one I had just listened to the previous 3-5 times it crashed in the past half hour) before I can continue listening! I'm begging you to fix this.

WNYC is the best general interest radio I know. Their app is among the worst I've ever had the frustration of using. It crashes constantly, usually in the middle of an item I'm trying to hear, and then reloads its PR message everytime I restart the stream, so I'm constantly missing content I'm trying to hear. Unless you want to keep your device in your hand, it's impossible to hear a complete broadcast without several interuptions. This problem has been long-term and persistent. (Android user)

Thanks for listening and for your feedback! It’s taken a while, but there’s a new version of the WNYC app that addresses these concerns. Give it a try and let us know what you think. If you’re still having problems after upgrading, you can email us at support@nypublicradio.org.

What’s new

This version updates the "Latest News Updates" section so that it displays the local newscast throughout the day. You can find NYC Now on the Browse page or featured on the homepage.

We've also fixed a number of small bugs throughout the app to make audio playback more reliable and to make it easier to find the shows you follow.
