About this app

It is an application for cell phones and tablets (Android Operating System) for children from 3 to 5 years old to learn through images and sounds the basic contents about the alphabet, numbers, family, colors, parts of the human body, animals, fruits and basic expressions in the Achuar language.

This app is aimed at serving as instruments to strengthen and promote linguistic revitalization processes that arise with the new generations.

The name of the Achuar people has its origin in the name of the large palm trees found in the area of the Peruvian Amazon that they have ancestrally occupied. Their language belongs to the Jíbaro linguistic family.

The history of the Achuar people was characterized by resistance against the incursions of missionaries and explorers during the colonial period and the first century of the republican period. This fact influenced until the first decades of the XIX century so that the Achuar remained in relative isolation. The Achuar people live mainly in the north of the department of Loreto, near the border with Ecuador.

In addition, the data obtained by the Ministry of Culture, the population of the communities of the Achuar people is estimated at 12,628 people.
