About this app

Bye Bye Scammer helps protect you from unwanted and suspicious phone calls—numbers reported by the community as spam or nuisance, including intrusive marketing calls and other numbers flagged as unwanted.

The app uses a database of phone numbers updated daily based on user reports and verification by administrators. This ensures that only confirmed spam numbers are blocked, and numbers requiring caution are flagged accordingly.

HOW THE APP WORKS

- Call Blocking: Numbers confirmed as spam are rejected before the phone rings—the app acts as Android's system "call screening app."
- Suspicious Number Alerts: If a number has been reported by the community but is not yet confirmed, you'll see a notification with the number of reports, e.g., "Possible Scammer (3 reports)." You decide whether to answer. - Trusted numbers: Verified, friendly numbers (e.g., your clinic's) are allowed through and marked with their name instead of a warning.
- Reporting: Report a suspicious number with a single tap directly from the app—copy and paste it from your recent calls list.
- Runs in the background: The list of numbers updates automatically once a day, without opening the app. You can also manually download the latest database at any time.

NUMBER IDENTIFICATION RULES

- 1 report—the number is assigned suspicious status, and an informational flag is displayed upon connection.
- 2 independent reports—the status is raised and the flag is more clearly displayed.
- 3 or more independent reports—the number is submitted for administrator verification.
- After positive administrator verification, the number may be marked as confirmed spam and added to the blocked list.

No number is automatically blocked solely based on user reports. To ensure the system is fair to everyone, reports are assigned an anonymous identifier (UUID)—this prevents duplicate entries and prevents one person from reporting the same number multiple times.

PRIVACY FIRST

The app does not read your contacts or call history, does not access the content of your conversations, does not create user profiles, does not contain advertising, and does not share or sell your data to third parties. The caller's number is only compared against the list locally on your phone—it is never sent to a server.

The app only downloads a list of numbers designated for call identification and blocking. The anonymous report identifier is random and does not allow for the identification of the user.

GETTING STARTED

1. Install and run the app. 2. Tap "Enable Call Blocking" and confirm that Bye Bye Scammer is your call screening app (this can also be changed in Settings → Applications → Default Apps → Caller ID and Spam App).
3. Done! The app will automatically update its number database and protect you from confirmed spam numbers.
