About this app

Banknote Identifier reads a photo of a banknote and opens the result with an estimated retail value range in USD. Photograph a note from a drawer, a trip or an album for a likely match in seconds.

WHAT ONE PHOTO GIVES YOU
- An estimated retail value range in USD, at the grade read from the photo
- The issuing country and the bank or treasury behind it
- The denomination, the printed year, the series and the paper or polymer substrate
- An approximate IBNS grade, as a range when a photo cannot go further
- A rarity descriptor: common circulation, scarce variety, star note
- The design and security features printed on the issue: watermark, thread, color-shifting ink
- The diagnostic markers the issue is catalogued by
- A short overview, quick facts, one fun fact and a confidence level

WHAT THE VALUE RANGE IS
The value range leads every result. It is a retail range for an issue like the one photographed, at the grade estimated from that photo: a bounded range such as $5 - $20, an open floor such as $5,000+, or one of three categories, Face value, Varies widely and Not applicable. A category is not a number and is never resolved into one. Value ranges are collector estimates in US dollars, not currency conversion.

OLD, FOREIGN AND COLLECTOR PAPER MONEY
Point the camera at a note, or pick a photo you already have. Old paper money out of a drawer or an inherited box, foreign notes from a trip, an album a collector wants catalogued quickly. Circulating notes, obsolete issues and hyperinflation notes, any country and any era. As a money identifier it stays narrow on purpose: paper money and polymer notes, nothing else. A coin or a gift card comes back with low confidence, not an invented answer.

BUILT FOR THE PHOTOS YOU ACTUALLY TAKE
No tripod and no flatbed scanner: a phone photo of a creased bill lying flat on a kitchen table is what this banknote identifier was built to read. It reads the issuer name, the denomination, the series number and the signatures in the margins, matches the portrait to the catalog issue, and notes what a serial prefix says. Grade is what a photograph handles worst, so a result gives a range and says when in-hand inspection is required.

ASK ABOUT THE NOTE YOU JUST IDENTIFIED
Ask AI is part of Premium. It opens a thread about the note you just identified: what separates one series from the one before it, why a star note is a replacement note, and how to store paper money, including why you should never tape or laminate a collectible note.

YOUR COLLECTION, KEPT
Tap Save and the scan is stored on your device with its photo, so a shoebox of old notes becomes an album you can read later. Nothing is filed unless you file it. No account.

WHO IT IS FOR
- Anyone clearing a drawer or an inherited box: old paper money, an old dollar bill
- Travelers back from a trip with foreign notes from four countries
- Collectors and notaphilists who want a fast catalog entry
- Anyone curious about a portrait or a reverse motif

HONEST ABOUT WHAT A PHOTO CAN DO
An identification here is a best-effort AI suggestion, not an authoritative determination. A value estimate from a photo is not an appraisal and not an offer to buy. Grading a note requires inspection in hand. The app identifies an issue from a photograph. It does not assess the specific note in your hand. A retail range is not a dealer buy price.

Identification needs an internet connection. Scans you have already saved stay on your device and can be reopened at any time.

The app interface and the results are available in 33 languages.

PREMIUM
Free includes 2 identifications per day. Premium lifts that daily limit and adds Ask AI. Free and Premium results carry the same fields. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and you can manage or cancel yours in your Google Play account settings at any time.
